On July 18, a momentous event was held to honor the life and enduring impact of Nelson Mandela, the revered South African anti-apartheid leader and former President. Organized by the Universal Peace Federation Africa (UPF-Africa) and attended by esteemed leaders and dignitaries from across the world, the celebration aimed to inspire peace, reconciliation, and unity on a global scale.

Former Nigerian President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, alongside UPF-AFRICA Co-chair Amb. Adama Doumbia, convened in Cambodia with a shared mission to promote peace through democratic principles. In Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Dr. Jonathan addressed global leaders at the International Leadership Conference, co-organized by the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) and the Asian Vision Institute (AVI). During his speech, he emphasized the importance of genuine democracy and leadership that prioritizes the welfare of the people. Dr. Jonathan stressed the pivotal role of good governance in fostering political stability, progress, and inclusive development. He urged world leaders to unite in cultivating a democratic culture based on justice and solidarity among nations. According to him, allowing citizens to freely exercise their voting rights is essential for achieving lasting peace, sustainable development, and opposing repression, dictatorship, and violations of human rights. | Speaking just a day before Cambodia's general election, Dr. Jonathan expressed support for the democratic process. He called on leaders worldwide to not merely oversee routine elections but to ensure that they are conducted transparently, fairly, inclusively, and with credibility, thus ensuring governance that serves the people and promotes global peace. Dr. Jonathan, who chairs the International Summit Council for Peace, ISCP-Africa, reiterated the organization's commitment to advocating for a democratic culture grounded in free and fair elections, the rule of law, and good governance. Furthermore, he encouraged world leaders and nations to cultivate mutually beneficial cooperation and interdependence for the greater good of humanity. Dr. Jonathan highlighted the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing the need for global collaboration, shared values, and solidarity among all nations to ensure peace, security, and prosperity for humanity. |
